Swellington

Since I haven't been having any huge adventures of late, and since I'll be leaving Wellington after Christmas, I thought I'd share some of the gloriously mundane things surrounding me these days.

Last night I got 10 hours of sleep. It was a beautiful thing. You know when you wake up and think "OH NO!" and for a split-second you consider rushing out the door to work and then you remember it's the weekend and you pull the curtains tighter and fall back into bed in a renewed state of relaxation... that's what I did. Then I woke up and made a mean stack of pancakes. Fruit and yoghurt, and "maple-flavoured syrup", delish! I guess when you don't come from a land of maple-syrup producing trees you come up with other toppings. Like lemon and sugar which flatmate my Phil shared with me. I added cinnamon and that reminded me of Beavertails on the Ottawa canal, and that made me happy.

Then I spent heaps of time on the Internet trying to get sorted out for applying for a job for the new year. I've been working the last week at a super cute preschool and the British teacher working there informed me that she's been working for 10 months without her official NZ approved qualifications, which she just got back the other week. So I'm taking a leap, applying for jobs in preschools around the country, and hoping that centres' desperation for teachers will outweigh my lack of qualifications at current. And hopefully they will pay me more than I am making at the moment as well, that'd be super sweet!

Once I'd reached my limit for laptop time, I headed down the hill to the grocery store, called New World (and it crossed my mind, "I wonder if they used that song from Aladdin in any of their ad campaigns?") and spent too long perusing the aisles. I'll admit that grocery shopping is one of my favourite things in the world to do. I took some photos of things I find kind of cool. Then I walked down the street and bought a diary/agenda because if it weren't for work I wouldn't know what day of the week it is; I want to do some planning for the South Island, and remember people's birthdays and things. I also bought a mechanical pencil which is cool, because that means I own something to write with now.

Hope I haven't bored you with the details of my run-of-the-mill sort of day. Consider it an effort to document more, analyze less, keep my eyes open and fresh, and continue to take pleasure in the little things.
