Ship in a Bottle
I've been sick all week, but everyday there is a "good" reason why I shouldn't call in sick. Meetings, workshops, field trips, etc. But today is the day I don't have a good reason NOT to call in sick, in fact I have a great reason TO call in sick. Yesterday towards the end of the day I started to lose my voice, and I also had tickets to go to Bright Eyes with Ryan which I was not going to pass up. So when Connor sang "Laura Laurent" and I was singing along because he asked me to:
...you should never be embarrassed by your trouble with living. Because it is the ones with the sorest throats, Laura, who have done the most singing. Everybody! La La La La La La La La La Lah...and I sang as loud as my little voice could, and then when I tried to "WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO" at then end it came out a little bit like "woo" and that was that. Good thing I called in sick before I went to the concert, because now I can stay home and watch daytime television, drink lots of o.j. and possibly take a nap after falling asleep with my JANE magazine.
Ryan and Ed were trading top 5's yesterday in the rain and I thought I'd add to it in the spirit of High Fidelity, quite possibly my favourite movie (or at least in the top 5.......)
TOP 5 CONCERT MOMENTS (not in any order)
- The trombonist from Beck's Midnite Vultures band winks at me at the Phoenix in Toronto. Noah and I are standing right at the front of the stage looking up at them for the whole concert. Also Beck sings a love song to a rose a capella.
- Radiohead's Kid A concert at the Air Canada Centre. The entire thing. The music literally travelled through my body the whole night. Amazing.
- Bright Eyes at Mac Hall last night. Mostly because I felt like if they weren't on tour they'd still be singing in somebody's living room somewhere. Also they weren't selling any merch at all which was cool because all the trendy people who wanted to go show people they'd been to the concert had to just rely on talking intelliegently about the show, which judging by the girls last night standing behind me who commented after EVERY line how much they wanted to be with Connor Oberst / how cute he was / how hot he was etc...
- James Brown in the rain with Bentley at the Ottawa Blues Festival. He would sing, do the splits, and then run off stage to take a break while his 'friends' sang a weird latin song or three while he caught his breath, then he'd come back out and do it all over again.
- Dancing in the rain to Sarah Harmer with Ed at the Calgary Folk Festival last summer.
- Ben Harper in Ottawa with Sarah and Darren. He does have a way of bringing a field full of random people together for a few hours and making you feel hopeful for something.... whatever that might be.
- Camping at Blue Skies Festival and listening to people play guitar around a campfire all night long from my tent, waking up and they're still there.
- Badly Drawn Boy at Lee's Palace. Actually anything I ever saw at Lee's Palace.
