That guy on the stick

So since Christmas, Hanukkah, Eid, Kwanzaa and all those celebrations are coming up, we've been talking a lot at school about what we believe. Plus, two of my kids say Santa doesn't exist, and then I have that to deal with too. Tough. In my classroom, I'm sticking with my story:
  • everybody believes what they want
  • I believe in Santa and the magic of Christmas
  • at my home I celebrate in a different way than pretty much everybody, but we all have similarities in what/how/why we celebrate
Anyway, the funny part of this story is that my kids have been coming up to me all week with things like "Happy Hanukkah... I celebrate Christmas but it's Hanukkah too!" and "my brother says Santa doesn't exist but how can he not if he wrote us letters" and so on. Then just as we're about to head out the door at the end of the day, one of my students says "Miss Fraser, you know that guy that's stuck up on that big stick with the long hair? I believe in that guy." Huh.

An update?

I get so frustrated sometimes when I check everybody's blogs and nobody's updated in a really long time. Then I realize I haven't updated mine since Nov. 27th. Dumb dumb. Anyway, I'm not just posting for the helluvit, here are some exciting new things in Amanda's favourite form of bulleted list and takeoff of my favourite New Yorker numbers list:
  • Number of Auntie Phil's infamous Viennese Crescents made on Saturday: 42
  • Number of Auntie Phil's infamous Viennese Crescents eaten at last sitting: 6
  • Number of days until Christmas: 9
  • Number of days until Ed and I fly to Ontario: 10
  • Number of presents still left to be bought: 1
  • Number of presents still left to be made: approximately 8
  • Number of Secret Santa gifts ready and waiting at school for giving out this week: 5
  • Number of muscles currently aching: I'm guessing 12 at least
  • Number of minutes it takes to heat up a Magic Bag: 2.2
  • Number of awesome runs I had today at Sunshine: too many to count
  • Number of amazing head whacking whiplashing face plants in the snow today: 6
  • Number of dollars Evan spent on a lunch at the lodge, comprising a chocolate milk, a bowl of soup, and a sandwich: 18.04 (I packed mine)
  • Number of wallets locked in the glove compartment... permanently? 1
